A thin market, growing from one new marina

Everything in Vietnam's yacht sector still points back to Ana Marina Nha Trang. Its 220-yacht capacity across an 89-hectare site, 68 hectares of it water, dwarfs anything else built for private yachts here, and its own boat-maintenance facility gives it a service angle none of the tourist-cruise ports have.

Outside Nha Trang, growth is real but small. Nha Trang and Phu Quoc are seeing a growing private speedboat and day-charter scene, distinct from Ha Long Bay's much larger, older junk-cruise tourism economy, a market to watch rather than one with deep brokerage inventory yet.

Two facilities matter here, and they serve completely different kinds of boat.

Where a bigger refit job goes

Ana Marina Nha Trang's own boat-maintenance facility anchors future refit and service plans, but Vietnam otherwise lacks an established superyacht refit yard comparable to Phuket's Boat Lagoon or Batam's shipyard cluster. Owners needing significant engineering work generally look to Singapore or Phuket instead, verify current capability as Ana Marina's own offering matures.

Registration and a tax picture that is still settling

The Vietnam Maritime Administration handles ship registration and port-code recognition; the Vietnam Register issues the classification, seaworthiness and tonnage certificates a permanent registration needs. There is no yacht-specific nationality prefix. Outside Ana Marina, foreign pleasure craft cruising Ha Long Bay or Phu Quoc have relied on a patchwork of port-authority and coast-guard procedures rather than one dedicated yacht-registry pathway, verify the current procedure given how new the Ana Marina designation is.

This research found no confirmed yacht-specific import duty rate, just Vietnam's general customs schedule. A roughly 2% excise tax on a locally-registered vessel's assessed value, or a fixed fee if lower, applies at registration. Standard VAT is 10%, reduced to 8% on many goods under recent stimulus measures, again unconfirmed for yachts specifically. Verify all of this with a Vietnam-based maritime lawyer before committing to a purchase, this is evolving policy, not settled law.

Which boats fit Vietnam's coastline

Vietnam's coast runs long, Ha Long Bay in the north down to Phu Quoc in the south, favoring range over speed for anyone moving a boat between them. The Grand Banks 54 is built for that kind of distance, a semi-displacement trawler hull rather than a planing hull built for a short hop.

Day to day, around Nha Trang's islands or Phu Quoc's anchorages, the Axopar 37 fits the growing speedboat and day-charter scene better, simple twin-outboard power in a market without deep service infrastructure yet.
